75% of Federal Agencies Completed Policies Required By The Telework Enhancement Act
In a May survey conducted by Telework Exchange 75% of federal agencies surveyed say they have completed policies regarding telecommuting required by The Telework Enhancement Act.
The law that was passed last year requires that all executive branch agencies have these telecommuting policies in place by June 9, and then telecommuting tools should also be in place by late July. If you’ve listened to what the government has said, they’ve been supporters of telecommuting for a long time, but their actions haven’t always seemed that way.
A number of studies have highlighted the benefits of telecommuting, including:
- Increased productivity
- Improved employee moral
- Reduced energy costs
- Reduced carbon footprint
Telecommuting benefits like these and new technology like SaaS have made it easier for employees to telecommute and ultimatley encouraged last years passing of The Telework Enhancement Act.

Happy Earth Day – Don’t Forget To Do Your Part
“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.”- Native American Proverb
Happy Earth Day everyone. It’s truly a great day to think and reflect upon what each and everyone of us can do to take better care of our planet, and that goes for individuals and organizations alike. Take some time to think about how you can use less energy and reduce your carbon footprint.
So often we’re all wasteful and inefficient in what we do as both individuals and organizations. We’re constantly using way more energy than we need to and sometimes don’t even realize it. So on Earth Day we here at PeopleCube would like to challenge everyone to put more thought into energy management. Make a real effort to understand where and when you or your organization is using energy where they don’t necessarily need to.
Happy Earth Day!
Reasons To Implement A Telecommuting Program For Your Business
The workplace is changing all the time. A change that we are seeing more and more are companies and employees looking for the ability to telecommute. The trend has even caught on with the United States Government as shown in the Telework Enhancement Act of 2010. Although telecommuting is catching on, some organizations are still reluctant to implement a telecommuting strategy. Here are some of the reasons your organization should consider telecommuting.
Reduced Carbon Footprint
By enabling your employees to work outside of the office, you will be able to significantly reduce your energy consumption and carbon footprint. Through the use of occupancy detection devices and scheduling software your organization will be able to track what resources are no longer being utilized in the office. once these resources are recognized you will no longer have to maintain and power them, reducing your energy consumption and carbon footprint.
With employees telecommuting you will also reduce carbon emissions by eliminating their commute!
Reduced Real Estate Costs
An organization’s corporate real estate is generally the second largest expense for an organization. By allowing your employees to telecommute you may be able to reduce your corporate real estate and relocate to a smaller office. You can analyze real estate business intelligence data that will assist you in making these type of decisions with Workplace BI.
Increased Productivity
A number of telecommuting studies show that allowing employees to telecommute increases their productivity. Increased productivity in telecommuters is said to stem from increased independence, higher worker satisfaction, and increased energy due to the elimination of commute. These telecommuters must possess discipline so it is beneficial to set goals for these workers to meet on a regular basis.
