In today’s world it can be extremely beneficial if an organization can brag and boast about being a green organization. People want to do business with organizations who consume less energy and have less of an impact on the environment. At the same time, today’s world also sees organizations trying to cut costs and reduce spending, which in some cases has led executives and owners of organizations to believe that their organization doesn’t always have the green to go green.
Going green will improve your organization’s reputation but it can also improve your organization’s bottom line as well. Going green shouldn’t be looked at as simply an expense but rather an opportunity to reduce costs for your organization.
One place where going green can create significant savings for an organization is their real estate and corporate resources. Just think of the cost associate with office buildings and the energy it takes to keep them operating. The Black River Falls School District in Wisconsin has made a strong commitment to energy management in hopes of reducing energy costs and energy consumption. The goals of their energy management program include:
- Minimize the impact energy cost increases will have on the budget
- Maintain a reliable supply of energy to meet the functional needs of the District
- Ensure that energy is used efficiently
The school district seems to have the right idea when it comes to energy management, as they want all staff and students to be involved in the energy management program as well. It’s important when implementing an energy management program to have buy in and participation from an entire organization. One way to encourage members to participate in energy management is making energy consumption data available to them through digital signage and on demand software applications. The Canadian Standards Association Brings ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard to Canada

The Canadian Standards Association, or CSA, has announced the availability of the ISO 50001 energy management standard in Canada. The ISO 50001 is the first global energy management systems standard. The ISO 50001 standard has been put in place to assist organizations around the world in reducing energy consumption and energy costs to their organization.
Organizations that demonstrate compliance with the ISO 50001 energy management standard will have an energy management system in place, have completed an established baseline of energy use, and will have committed to continuous improvement of its energy performance.

School In Michigan To Receive $370K In Utility Rebates Due To Implementing An Energy Management Syste,

In Coldwater, Michigan the schools will be implementing a new energy management system. The energy management system will be able to control multiple systems inside their facilities and it can all be done through a website. Implementing an energy management system for schools can reduce energy consumption and cut costs for school systems in a time where school systems are looking to save every last penny.
Implementing an energy management system not only can reduce energy consumption and cut costs but the Coldwater Schools will also receive $370,000 in utility rebates due to the implementation of their new energy management system.
Schools can clearly benefit from the implementation of an energy management system but they are not alone. Any organization would benefit from implementing an energy management system that both monitors and manages their energy consumption. Savings are created through reduced energy usage and other incentives the government has and should continue to put in place for organizations and businesses who make investments in energy management.
