Bring Your Own Device Movement Presents Opportunities For Job Seekers & Organizations
In a recent survey conducted by Cisco 4 out of 5 college students want to choose the device they use for their jobs. Many say that this validates the “Bring Your Own Device” movement. It certainly does seem like that but it also is a good sign that the incoming workforce will have no issue with telework and using SaaS to complete tasks at their job.
A direct product of employees utilizing their own technology and mobile devices for work will be an increase in mobile work being done outside of the office and the need for organizations to accommodate that with software and data being available through SaaS and the cloud.
With more millenials joining the workforce and depending on their own mobile devices to complete tasks an opportunity also presents itself to help recently graduated job seekers and cash strapped organizations at the same time. With many businesses still in the recovery process it is challenging for organizations to commit the payroll needed to hire full time staff. This presents a challenge for the organization to hire the help they need and for recent graduates to find employment. With more millenials utilizing their own technology and mobile devices, and more organizations utilizing SaaS and the cloud, these recent graduates now have the opportunity to work on various tasks for multiple organizations and earn a pay check that way. This same situation allows struggling organizations to enlist the services of capable employees on a per job basis to keep their costs down.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle… Your Office Space
Yesterday a colleague brought an article to my attention from a couple of months ago. The article takes the phrase we’ve heard so many times about disposing of our plastic bottles and old newspapers and applies it to office space.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle your office space. Organizations can reduce office space, reuse underutilized space, and even recycle that space by turning it into something else and putting it to use in different ways. This space could be currently filled by desks and cubes that are left unused by the mobile workforce. Organizations can then take this space and turn it into hot desks that can be reserved or even collaborative meeting space.
Before organizations Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, they should first understand the actual utilization of that space they are looking to change. With out real data, an organization would simply be going on a hunch. With corporate real estate or office space being the second largest expense for an organization, I’m sure most executives would agree with me that altering your office space is something that shouldn’t be done on a hunch.
Understand Actual Space Utilization
Solutions are available that will allow your organization to understand the actual space utilization of your office space or real estate. Through occupancy detection and real estate business intelligence your organization can see how your space is being used in real time. These solutions also show trending data that will allow you to see how and when your space is used the most. By analyzing and understanding this real estate business intelligence your data your organization can effectively and efficiently make decisions to reduce, reuse, and recycle your office space.

Gartner Predicts An Increase in SaaS Spending
Gartner is predicting that due to tightened IT budgets that SaaS, or Software-as-a-Service, spending will increase by 21% in 2011. Budget constraints are encouraging more IT leaders and executives to turn to monthly subscription pricing models when it comes to software.
SaaS has been around for some time, but now there are product offerings for anything from Customer Relation Management to Scheduling Software, and even business intelligence solutions.
Why are businesses turning to SaaS?
What makes these SaaS solutions so attractive? This question can be answered in a couple of ways. The low monthly subscription costs make the solutions much more affordable than other solutions where there are large up front fees. The smaller monthly costs also allow organizations to realize a return on the investment much sooner than they would otherwise.
Another reason businesses are turning to SaaS solutions is simply because implementation and maintenance become less of hassle as well. SaaS solutions are hosted and maintained by the vendor. This allows businesses and organizations to save on IT infrastructure and worry less about the software that allows them to do their job and more about completing their actual tasks.
A third reason businesses are turning to SaaS is the accessibility. More organizations are allowing their employees to telecommute or join the mobile workforce. SaaS solutions can be accessed from web browsers where ever an employee may be. Now employees are even able to access SaaS solutions through their cell phones in many cases.
