State Department Employees Turn To Telework After Fire
On Tuesday morning a fire broke out in a downtown Washington D.C. building that housed State Department employees. There were thankfully no injuries stemming from the fire, but there was damage to the building that has shut off access to the State Department offices for some employees.
12 different bureaus of the State Department are located inside the building and the director of each bureau is being contacted on how to keep their employees up in running. In some instances employees will telework to keep the different bureaus up and running. Some of these employees will actually work in other State Department offices, while others will utilize alternative locations.
The Telework Enhancement Act came about for situations just like this. The act calls for all federal agencies to have telework policies in place so that in the event of an emergency these federal agencies can remain active by telecommuting and won’t have to shut down for any number of days.
