Building Sustainability Limited (BSL) is a technology company working with the commercial property sector, developers, and occupants to design and implement systems to track and control energy consumption and carbon emissions. BSL has developed the Workplace Footprint Tracker™, a unique software suite which connects to building management systems (BMS), individual meters and control systems to monitor and control energy consumption and carbon emissions in real time.

The Workplace Footprint Tracker integrates room booking software with the building’s energy control system. In this way information on room bookings is used to control the supply of energy. The room booking schedule is shared with the Workplace Footprint Tracker, which transfers this information to the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning system. The temperature is adjusted for each booking according to previously specified settings. A similar process can be used to control the level of lighting as well.

At the end of the meeting the Workplace Footprint Tracker records the amount of energy used. This data can then be passed back to the room booking software and an energy cost allocated to meetings. A carbon dashboard allows reductions in carbon emissions to be visible to both clients and employees. When integrated with PeopleCube’s Resource Scheduler, organizations are able to better utilize and manage their workspace, and obtain real-time energy emissions and consumption data on their facilities to lessen their carbon footprint and reduce energy consumption costs.
